Press Release (Pandemic Theatre)

Pandemic Theatre & The DitchWitch Brigade Premiere
MISS TORONTO ACTS BACK
Created by The DitchWitch Brigade Collective

With MISS TORONTO ACTS BACK, Pandemic Theatre welcomes internationally recognized director and multi-media artist, Antje Budde. Budde has worked with The State Puppet Theatre Neubrandenburg (DE), the Hackesch Hoftheater and Akademi der Kuenste  in Berlin (DE) and the National Experimental Theatre in Beijing (CN).

Featuring Eve Wylden (Love, Virtually – Best of Fringe 2011, TO) and Art Babayants (Couldn’t We Be, Phoenix Cultural Diversity Theatre) MISS TORONTO ACTS BACK dives deep into the shallow end of Toronto’s history – The Miss Toronto Beauty Pageant.

With over three years of rigorous research and development, MISS TORONTO ACTS BACK (Previously Miss Toronto Gets A Life_In Parkdale) journeys through time uncovering an alternative history of Toronto, and the role of women in North America in a multimedia extravaganza.

MISS TORONTO ACTS BACK follows Pandemic Theatre’s Murder on Ossington ( which opened to a SOLD OUT three week run) and this summer’s Canadian premiere of ChloĆ« Moss’ This Wide Night at the Theatre Passe Muraille Backspace, presented in support of Mermaid Parade with Mercury Stage Productions which NOW Magazine’s Jon Kaplan proclaimed, “…lots to admire in this production.”

THE DITCHWITCH BRIGADE is an artistic collective founded in 2008 for the purposes of investigating the hidden elements of Toronto history that lead to the collective creation of MISS TORONTO ACTS BACK. It’s members include: Art Babayants, Alex Baczynskyj, Katie Binnersley, Antje Budde, , Aidan Dahlin-Nolan, Tara Gerami, Doug Hamilton, Myrto Koumarianos, Kearsten Lyons, Alexi Marchel,  Mariana Medellin-Meinke, Kelsey Speakman, Jacquey Taucar, Eve Wylden, with friends (Helen Yung, Jivesh Parasram, Cui Yi, Kat Letwin)
